Angus Wall had switched from Avid to Final Cut Pro a few months before he decided to repeat his collaboration with David Fincher on Zodiac. He felt that with multicam support he would have all the tools needed to complete a feature like Zodiac in Apple's editing software. A team of 3 Assistant Editors worked with Angus on the movie. All work was shared via a xsan disk system supported by work conventions the team established to avoid 'data confusion'.
With access to the Motion tool set within Final Cut, Angus was able to build complex vfx scenes in quasi-finished quality. Evaluating performances and timing nuances was greatly facilitated by the quality of these effects.
Final Cuts XML exchange capability allowed for a very tight integration with the rest of datalab, be it on the input or output side.
