During principal photography, sound and picture are captured. There is a lot of other information that is simultaneously created called metadata. This includes timecode, script notes, camera, setup, take, gps, lens, color setting, etc. The potential uses for metadata are endless.
Datalab keeps all this information in an dynamic database. A secure web interface allows access to the information a specific person needs. This database is the nervous system of Datalab and serves many purposes. A comment from the director regarding a specific take can be very valuable to the editor. Datalab automatically exchanges this information with Final Cut Pro. Metadata exchange with PIX was also done automatically via a web interface that PIX could simple 'scrape'.
