When a movie is shot on film, datalab is equally effective: Instead of using telecine for dailies, one would scan the film and handle the files accordingly. The use of a high speed full quality film scanner and commodity processing power as well as inexpensive server space make this workflow viable. This method eliminates the extra steps cutting negative and scanning only for final output.
